Partnership, trust and mutual inspiration are what Filipe Portugal's "Behind the Mirror" is all about. The choreographer - for a long time one of the most popular soloists of the Zurich Ballet - created the eight-minute Pas de deux especially for dancers of the Junior Ballet for the slow movement from Dmitri Shostakovich's First Piano Concerto. A dancer is in a situation in which she wants to give up and no longer dance. Her partner tries to restore her lost self-confidence and empathetically encourages her to dance again. In addition to the emotional background, the pas de deux proves to be a technically highly demanding form of encounter between the two dancers.
