Since my beginnings as a choreographer, the compositions of John Adams - and especially the "Fearful Symmetries" - have fascinated me. I already used music by John Adams in the first pieces written in Zurich: in 2007 I wrote "Alleged Dances" with movements from the composition of the same name, followed in 2008 by the piece "Road B" with music from "Road Movies" and "American Berserk". But only now, ten years later, do I feel ready for the enormous forces slumbering in "Fearful Symmetries". My choreography focuses on the four elements fire, water, earth and air. On the one hand, I am interested in their characteristic properties. But much more I would like to find out what reaction the interaction of the different elements triggers in dance and movement. Starting point of our "investigation" are the birthdays of the dancers of the Junior Ballet. On the basis of their zodiac signs and the elements assigned to them, a wide variety of dancer combinations and reaction possibilities arise.
